Nintendo’s Next System President Could Be Described as “The Next Paradigm Transition”

All eyes are on what’s to come from Nintendo after the Switch, especially when it comes to launch news today. Chairman Shuntaro Furukawa has finally commented on the system’s successor and confirmed that it will be announced in the next fiscal year, ending in March 2025.

During an earnings call, Furukawa was asked whether the new dashboard was completely new or something else. He responded by saying “The next paradigm shift is the appropriate way to describe it.”

With so much hardware, Nintendo is famous for pursuing innovation through simpler updates. For example, the Wii is completely original with motion controls. Then we saw the Wii U go in a different direction through the inclusion of a separate tablet. With the Switch, everything is essentially packed into one portable device.

It makes sense that Nintendo would look to build on the Switch rather than scrap it in search of a new concept. The system has sold more than 140 million units worldwide and is on track to become the best-selling video game hardware of all time. Nintendo’s handhelds also usually perform well, so maintaining the portable aspect is important.

Our next update from Nintendo will come in June when the next Nintendo Direct airs. However, the presentation will focus primarily on the Switch games rather than the successor.
